The opening ceremony took place on August 17th with Governor John Connally present along with other state officials including Mayor B.A Bennett Jr., local business leaders such as Paul Dorman (founder & chairman) from Pentair Inc., who were part owners during this time period until Brunswick Corporation acquired Mercury Marine later that year.
