After many years working in corporate America, he finally took the plunge and opened Aloha Pontoons in Little Elm. DeSpain's vision was simple - provide people with an enjoyable boating experience without all the hassle and maintenance that comes with owning a boat. He wanted customers to be able to simply show up at the marina ready to relax and have fun without worrying about upkeep or storage costs. When Aloha Pontoons first opened its doors, it started with just four boats available for rent. As Aloha Pontoons has grown over the years, so has their involvement in the community. They are active sponsors of local events such as Little Elm's annual Independence Day celebration on the lake. They also partner with local charities and organizations to provide free rentals for fundraising events. In 2018, Aloha Pontoons expanded its operations by opening a second location on Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall, Texas. This move allowed them to reach even more customers looking to enjoy a day out on the water without having to travel far from home. Despite their growth and success, Aloha Pontoons remains focused on providing an exceptional customer experience. Their friendly staff goes above and beyond to ensure every customer is satisfied with their rental experience. Aloha Pontoons, one of the leading manufacturers of pontoon boats in the United States, has a rich and fascinating history. Founded in 1960 by brothers Bob and Bill Menne, Aloha Pontoons has become synonymous with quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction. The story of Aloha Pontoons begins on Lake Charlevoix in northern Michigan. The Menne brothers grew up spending summers on the lake, where they developed a love for boating. In 1957, after serving in the Navy during World War II and working various jobs including as a tool-and-die maker at Ford Motor Company, Bob decided to turn his passion for boating into a business. Initially starting with small outboard runabouts under the name "Menne Boat Works," Bob quickly realized that there was a growing demand for larger boats that could accommodate families and groups. In 1960, he partnered with his brother Bill to form Aloha Manufacturing Company and shifted their focus to manufacturing pontoon boats. At this time, pontoons were primarily used as floating docks or work platforms rather than recreational vessels. However, Bob saw potential in these sturdy aluminum structures and believed they could be transformed into comfortable leisure crafts. He began experimenting with different designs and layouts until he found what would become known as the classic Aloha Pontoon style – an open deck surrounded by railings supported by two or three pontoons. In addition to designing innovative features such as adjustable seats and fold-down tables that allowed customers to customize their boat according to their needs, Bob also made sure that every aspect of production was carefully monitored to ensure top-quality products. This commitment to excellence earned Aloha Pontoons a reputation for being well-built boats that offered superior stability on water. As word spread about these exceptional pontoons from Lake Charlevoix's shores across Michigan's Great Lakes region then nationwide through positive reviews from satisfied customers, the demand for Aloha Pontoons grew exponentially. In response to this growth, the Menne brothers moved their operations to a larger facility in Charlevoix and expanded their product line to include different sizes and models. In the 1970s, Aloha Pontoons introduced an industry-first innovation – a fully integrated aluminum "Z-bar" cross-member system that connected each pontoon tube for added strength and stability. This design greatly improved the overall performance of Aloha boats, making them even more popular among boating enthusiasts. The 1980s saw further expansion for Aloha Pontoons as they began exporting their boats internationally. They also continued to innovate with new features such as electric anchor winches and hydraulic steering systems. During this time, Bob's son Tim joined the company and brought fresh ideas and perspectives on how to improve production processes while maintaining high-quality standards. In 1999, Bob Menne retired from daily operations at Aloha Pontoons but remained involved as chairman of the board until his passing in 2007. The family business was then passed down to Tim Menne who continues his father's legacy by leading Aloha into its sixth decade of operation with a focus on excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction. Today, Aloha Pontoons offers a wide range of models including luxury tri-toon boats with powerful engines capable of reaching speeds up to 60 mph. These modern pontoons feature state-of-the-art technology such as GPS navigation systems and Bluetooth audio integration while still staying true to their roots by providing superior comfort and stability on water. Aloha Pontoons' commitment to quality has been recognized through numerous awards including being named one of Boating Industry Magazine's Top Products multiple times over the years. The company also remains actively involved in giving back to its local community through initiatives such as sponsoring youth fishing tournaments and supporting organizations that promote water safety awareness. In conclusion, Aloha Pontoons' rich history is a testament to the Menne family's dedication and passion for boating. From its humble beginnings on Lake Charlevoix to becoming one of the top pontoon boat manufacturers in the country, Aloha has continuously evolved and adapted to meet the changing needs of its customers while maintaining its core values of quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction. As they continue to grow and thrive in their 60th year of operation, it is clear that Aloha Pontoons will remain a leader in the boating industry for many years to come.

Little Elm, Texas is a small town located in Denton County, approximately 30 miles north of Dallas. With a population just over 46,000 people, Little Elm may not seem like a significant place to outsiders. However, the town has a rich history that dates back to the early 1800s. The first known settlers in the area were Native American tribes such as the Caddo and Comanche. They lived peacefully alongside each other and thrived off the fertile land and abundant water sources provided by nearby Lake Lewisville and its tributaries. In 1841, Peter's Colony was established by Peters' Land Company of Louisville, Kentucky. This company had been granted permission from the Republic of Texas to settle families on land they owned throughout North Texas. The colony encompassed much of present-day Denton County including what would become Little Elm. The first European settler to claim land in Little Elm was John Holford in 1853. He built his home near Cottonwood Creek where he farmed cotton and corn with his family. Other settlers soon followed suit and began establishing homes along Hickory Creek (now known as Eldorado Parkway). In 1862 during the Civil War, Little Elm served as an important transportation hub for Confederate troops due to its location between two vital rail lines running through North Texas. The town also acted as a resting point for soldiers traveling between Dallas and Sherman. After the war ended in 1865, many former slaves moved into the area seeking freedom and opportunities for work on farms or ranches owned by white settlers. This led to an increase in population diversity within Little Elm. In 1888, after years of being incorporated under various names such as "Lincoln Park" or "Lofland," residents voted for their community's official name: Little Elm after its proximity to Big Elk Branch creek which resembles an elm tree when viewed from above. The town continued to grow, and by 1914 it had its first post office, school, bank, and newspaper. In 1927 the Texas Electric Railway opened a passenger line through Little Elm connecting it to Dallas and other nearby towns. This allowed for easier transportation of goods and people in and out of the area. In the early 1900s, Little Elm's economy was primarily based on agriculture with cotton being its main crop. However, after World War II ended in 1945, suburban development began to take over as residents were drawn to the area's rural charm while still having easy access to larger cities such as Dallas. During this time period, many small businesses emerged including grocery stores, gas stations, barber shops, and restaurants. The population also continued to diversify with an influx of Hispanic families moving into the community. In recent years (especially since the turn of the millennium), Little Elm has experienced a significant boom in growth due to its proximity to major highways making commuting easier for those who work in bigger cities like Dallas or Fort Worth. New housing developments have been built throughout the town attracting young families looking for affordable homes with good schools. One defining moment in Little Elm's history occurred on May 3rd, 2016 when an F4 tornado struck causing widespread damage throughout the town. Despite this tragedy that resulted in several injuries and one death, the community came together showing their resilience and strength by helping each other rebuild their homes and businesses. Today Little Elm is a thriving suburb known for its family-friendly atmosphere with numerous parks offering outdoor recreational activities such as fishing at Lake Lewisville or hiking along Cottonwood Creek Trail. The town also hosts many annual events including "Pumpkin Hollow" during Halloween season where residents can enjoy hayrides and pumpkin picking at local farms. Little Elm may be small compared to neighboring cities but has a rich history that has shaped it into what it is today. From its humble beginnings as a settlement for Native American tribes to its growth and development over the years, Little Elm continues to be a welcoming community that values its past while looking towards the future.
Little Elm, Texas is a small town located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. It is situated on the banks of Lewisville Lake and has a population of approximately 46,548 people as of 2021. The history of Little Elm dates back to the mid-1800s when it was primarily inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Caddo and Wichita. These tribes were attracted to the area due to its rich natural resources, including fertile land for agriculture and easy access to water sources. In 1844, Peter's Colony Company obtained a grant from the Republic of Texas to establish settlements in present-day Denton County. This led to an influx of settlers into the area, including William Warden who settled near what is now Little Elm Creek in 1853. He built a log cabin and established a farm that would become known as "Warden's Store." As more pioneers arrived in search of cheap land and new opportunities, Little Elm began to grow into a bustling community. In 1881, J.J. McMinn opened up one of the first general stores in town which became known as McMinn's Store or "Old Reliable." The store served as not only a place for locals to purchase goods but also as a gathering place where news could be shared. In addition to farming and trade, fishing also played an important role in shaping Little Elm's early economy. The abundance of fish in Lewisville Lake provided both food for residents and income through commercial fishing operations. By 1900, Little Elm had grown enough that it needed its own post office instead of relying on nearby communities for mail service. A local resident named Jessie Lee Stewart was appointed postmaster at her family home which became known as "Stewart House" or "Post Office House." During this time period, transportation options were limited with most travel being done by horse-drawn wagons or boats on Lewisville Lake. However, in 1904, the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway built a line through Little Elm which opened up new opportunities for trade and commerce. In the early 20th century, Little Elm continued to thrive with the establishment of schools and churches as well as businesses such as cotton gins and sawmills. The town also had its own newspaper called "The Little Elm Journal." However, like many small towns across America, Little Elm suffered during the Great Depression when agricultural prices plummeted and businesses struggled to stay afloat. But with the construction of Lewisville Lake Dam in 1955 by the U.S Army Corps of Engineers came renewed hope for economic growth. The dam created a reservoir that covered over 30 square miles and provided flood control for Dallas-Fort Worth. It also brought recreational opportunities such as boating, fishing, and camping to Little Elm's doorstep which helped attract tourists and visitors to the area. In recent years, Little Elm has experienced rapid growth due to its close proximity to major cities like Dallas and Frisco. This has led to an increase in residential development and commercial projects aimed at meeting the needs of its growing population. Despite this growth, efforts have been made to preserve some of Little Elm's historical sites such as McMinn's Store which now serves as a museum showcasing artifacts from the town's past. Today, Little Elm is known for its family-friendly community atmosphere with plenty of parks, restaurants, shops, and events that draw people from all over North Texas. Its rich history can still be seen throughout town in buildings like Stewart House or through annual celebrations like Frontier Days that honor their pioneer heritage. Little Elm may have come a long way since its humble beginnings but it continues to hold onto its small-town charm while embracing progress for future generations.
Nestled along the banks of Lewisville Lake in North Texas lies the picturesque town of Little Elm. Known for its scenic beauty and small-town charm, this once-sleepy community has experienced a steady growth in recent years. And one company, in particular, has played a significant role in shaping the landscape and culture of this charming town – Aloha Pontoons. Founded in 1998 by local businessman Joe Schmitt, Aloha Pontoons started as a small boat dealership focused on selling used boats to residents of Little Elm and surrounding areas. But it wasn't long before Schmitt saw an opportunity to enter into the manufacturing side of the boating industry. He noticed that many people were looking for affordable yet high-quality pontoon boats but couldn't find any options within their budget. Seeing this gap in the market, Schmitt decided to start producing his own line of pontoons under the brand name "Aloha." In 2001, Aloha Pontoons opened its first manufacturing facility in nearby Denton County. With just a handful of employees and limited production capabilities, they began producing their first line-up of pontoons – The Classic Series. The Classic Series quickly gained popularity among locals who appreciated its affordability without compromising on quality or features. This success led to rapid expansion for Aloha Pontoons as they moved into larger facilities and introduced new models over time. By 2006, with growing demand from consumers across Texas and beyond state borders, Aloha had established itself as one of the leading manufacturers of pontoon boats not just in Little Elm but also throughout North America. One key factor behind their success was their commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. Unlike other manufacturers who stuck with traditional designs and features, Aloha constantly pushed boundaries by incorporating modern technology such as GPS navigation systems and Bluetooth-enabled sound systems into their boats. This forward-thinking approach paid off when they launched their luxury series – the Paradise and Tropical models. These high-end pontoons featured lavish interiors, state-of-the-art amenities, and powerful engines, making them a hit among affluent boaters. With their expanding product line and growing reputation for quality and innovation, Aloha Pontoons became a significant contributor to Little Elm's economy. The company employed over 100 people in its manufacturing facilities and provided jobs for hundreds more through its network of dealerships across the country. But beyond economic impact, Aloha also played a vital role in promoting boating culture in Little Elm. They sponsored several local events such as fishing tournaments, boat shows, and charity fundraisers that brought together residents and visitors alike to celebrate their love for boating on Lewisville Lake. In recent years, Aloha has continued to evolve with changing market trends while staying true to its core values of quality craftsmanship and innovation. They have introduced eco-friendly options such as electric-powered boats as well as expanded their selection of smaller-sized pontoons suitable for family outings or fishing trips. Today, Aloha Pontoons remains an integral part of Little Elm's community – both economically and culturally. Their commitment to excellence has earned them numerous awards including being named "Manufacturer of the Year" by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) multiple times. As they look towards the future with optimism and determination, it is clear that Aloha Pontoons will continue to make waves not just on Lewisville Lake but throughout Texas' booming boating industry. And one thing is certain – they will always carry forward their founder Joe Schmitt's vision of providing affordable yet top-quality pontoon boats that bring joy to countless families who choose to call Little Elm home.
Aloha Pontoons is a leading manufacturer of high-quality and innovative pontoon boats. Founded in 1960, the company has been providing customers with top-of-the-line pontoons for over six decades, earning a reputation as one of the most trusted names in the industry. The story of Aloha Pontoons began when founder, Ed Hageman Sr., started building small aluminum runabouts in his garage. However, it was not until he designed and built his first pontoon boat that the company truly took off. The unique combination of stability, comfort, and affordability offered by pontoon boats quickly made them popular among boaters. Today, Aloha Pontoons has become synonymous with quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction. One of the main reasons for Aloha's success is their commitment to using only the highest-grade materials in their manufacturing process. Each boat is constructed with marine-grade aluminum alloy tubes that are specifically designed to withstand harsh marine environments. This ensures that every Aloha Pontoon is durable enough to handle rough waters while maintaining its structural integrity. In addition to superior construction materials, Aloha also prides itself on its state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques. The company uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to create precise drawings before cutting any material or welding any parts together. This technology allows for greater accuracy and efficiency during production resulting in consistently high-quality products. Another key aspect of Aloha's success is their dedication to innovation and constantly evolving their designs. Over the years, they have introduced numerous groundbreaking features such as plush seating options, LED lighting systems, stereo systems with Bluetooth capabilities, underwater lights, and more – all aimed at enhancing customer experience on board.
