Mercury Marine is a leading manufacturer of outboard motors and marine engines. The company has a rich history, dating back to 1939 when Carl Kiekhaefer founded the company in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Over the years, Mercury Marine has expanded its operations globally and established numerous facilities across different locations. One such location is Flower Mound, Texas. The story of Mercury Marine in Flower Mound began in 1968 when the company acquired land for development from Del Webb Corporation. This acquisition was part of their plan to expand their production capabilities to meet the growing demand for their products. However, it wasn't until 1973 that construction on the new facility started. The initial phase of construction included an administration building and two manufacturing buildings with over 130,000 square feet of floor space. The first product line produced at this facility was stern drives for boats ranging from 80-225 horsepower. These stern drives were revolutionary at that time as they offered greater power and maneuverability compared to other models available on the market. As demand continued to grow, so did Mercury Marine's presence in Flower Mound. In 1984, another expansion project began with an additional manufacturing building being constructed, bringing the total floor space to approximately one million square feet by 1987. In addition to producing stern drives, Mercury Marine also started manufacturing outboard engines at this facility in the late 1980s. This move further solidified their position as a leader in marine engine technology and innovation. One significant event that took place during this time was when Mercury won its first J.D Power & Associates Award for customer satisfaction in sterndrive category – a feat they would continue achieving consecutively for many years after that. Over time, advancements in technology led to changes within the industry and affected how boats were powered. As boat manufacturers shifted towards using more outboard engines instead of sterndrives or traditional inboard motors, Mercury Marine adapted to these changes and expanded its outboard engine production capabilities in Flower Mound. In 2008, the company underwent a major renovation project at their Flower Mound facility. This included updating equipment and incorporating new technologies to improve efficiency and quality control. The renovated facility now boasts over 1.5 million square feet of floor space and employs over 1000 people. Today, Mercury Marine's presence in Flower Mound is more than just a manufacturing facility; it has become an integral part of the community. The company has made significant contributions towards local charities, education programs, and environmental initiatives. One notable program is the "Mercury University," which provides training for employees on various aspects such as leadership development, technical skills improvement, and safety procedures. This program not only benefits employees but also contributes to the overall growth of the community by creating skilled workers. In addition to their involvement with the community, Mercury Marine continues to be a leader in innovation within the marine industry. They have introduced numerous groundbreaking products over the years that have revolutionized boating experiences for consumers worldwide. For instance, they were one of the first companies to introduce digital throttle-and-shift technology (DTS), which allowed for smoother shifting between gears and precise control over engines' speed – making boating safer and more enjoyable for users. Furthermore, Mercury's ongoing commitment towards sustainability is evident through their implementation of eco-friendly practices at their Flower Mound facility. They utilize solar energy systems on-site to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also implementing recycling programs for waste reduction. In conclusion, Mercury Marine's history in Flower Mound spans over five decades; it has been marked by constant growth and adaptation to changing market trends while maintaining its position as an industry leader in innovation and customer satisfaction. Their presence has not only contributed significantly towards economic development but also had a positive impact on social welfare within this Texas town.

Mercury Marine is a leading manufacturer of marine engines and propellers, with a long and rich history dating back to the early 20th century. The company was founded in 1939 by E. Carl Kiekhaefer, who had a passion for engineering and a vision to revolutionize the boating industry. Kiekhaefer originally started his career as an engineer at Outboard Motors Corporation (OMC), but left after disagreements with management over design practices. He then set out on his own and purchased bankrupt Cedarburg Manufacturing Company, which produced outboard motors under the name Thor-Craft. With this acquisition, Kiekhaefer began working on improving the design of these outboard motors. His goal was to create faster, more reliable engines that could withstand harsh marine conditions. After extensive research and development, he introduced Mercury’s first production engine – Model A - in 1940. Initially, Mercury faced stiff competition from established players such as OMC and Johnson Motors (now part of BRP). However, Kiekhaefer’s relentless pursuit of innovation helped him gain an edge over his competitors. In 1941, Mercury launched its second model - Lightning M-Class – which became an instant hit due to its superior performance and advanced features like quiet operation. The outbreak of World War II proved to be a turning point for Mercury Marine's growth trajectory. With military contracts pouring in for small boat engines used by Navy SEALs during missions behind enemy lines or beachhead landings; sales skyrocketed during this period. After the war ended in 1945, Mercury continued its focus on developing new technologies while also expanding its product line-up beyond outboard motors into sterndrive propulsion systems – combining both stern-mounted inboards with forward-facing propellers creating better handling boats capable of higher speeds than traditional designs. Innovation remained at the core of everything that happened at Mercury post-war period. In 1949, Mercury introduced its first four-stroke engine - the “Mark 75” – which could produce an impressive 30 horsepower while remaining lightweight and efficient. This was a significant advancement in the industry as previously two-strokes engines were dominant. The company continued to gain momentum throughout the ‘50s and ‘60s, with new milestones being achieved every year. In 1957, Mercury witnessed its biggest success yet when a modified Mark-55 outboard motor reached speeds of over 100 mph during water speed trials at Lake Tahoe, California. In addition to technological advancements, Mercury also made strategic moves that helped cement its position as a leader in the marine industry. In 1961, it acquired Kiekhaefer Aero-Marine Company – an aircraft manufacturer – which allowed them to bring advanced technology into their products. However, despite all this success and growth; Mercury faced tough times during the late ‘60s due to increased competition from Japanese manufacturers such as Yamaha and Honda entering the American market with high-quality motors at lower prices. To combat this threat, Kiekhaefer stepped down from his role as CEO in 1968 but remained on board as Chairman until his retirement in1973. His successor Robert Pierce who had been working for Brunswick Corporation (Mercury’s parent company) since early ’60s took charge of day-to-day operations of Mercury Marine thereafter until he retired himself three decades later leaving behind a successful legacy including many more innovations like sterndrive propulsion systems featuring hydraulic power steering called MerCruiser among others. Under Pierce's leadership; sales continued growing exponentially allowing expansion beyond US shores by opening offshore facilities across Europe & Asia-Pacific regions making it one of largest global providers today serving recreational boating markets along commercial fishing vessels too! Today under Brunswick Corporation umbrella; operating within Power Products segment alongside other well-known brands like Sea Ray®, Bayliner®, Boston Whaler® and Lund®; Mercury Marine continues to innovate and set industry standards with its advanced technologies such as digital controls, engine management systems, joystick piloting, and more. In recent years, the company has focused on sustainability efforts by introducing cleaner-burning engines with lower emissions. They have also invested in electric propulsion systems for smaller boats and are working towards developing alternative fuels for their larger engines. Furthermore, Mercury Marine has been actively involved in various philanthropic initiatives – including partnering with organizations like The National Forest Foundation to protect America's waterways while providing support to communities that rely on them for recreational activities or livelihoods. In conclusion, Mercury Marine’s journey from a small outboard motor manufacturer to an industry leader is a testament to the passion and determination of its founder E. Carl Kiekhaefer. While it faced challenges along the way, the company's commitment to innovation and quality has allowed it to thrive for over 80 years. Today, Mercury remains at the forefront of marine technology and continues to shape the boating industry through its innovative products and dedication to sustainability.

Mercury Marine is a leading manufacturer of marine propulsion systems, parts, and accessories. The company was founded in 1939 by Carl Kiekhaefer as Kiekhaefer Corporation in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. It began with the production of magnetic separators for the dairy industry but soon switched to producing outboard motors. Flower Mound, Texas is a beautiful and thriving community located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. It is known for its scenic landscapes, vibrant culture, and rich history. The town’s name comes from a 12.5-acre hill covered in native wildflowers that was declared an official landmark by the state of Texas in 1983. The early history of Flower Mound dates back to the mid-1800s when it was primarily inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Comanche, Kiowa, and Wichita. These tribes were nomadic hunters who followed buffalo herds across the prairies of North Texas. In 1841, Sam Houston signed a treaty with these tribes allowing white settlers to establish farms and ranches on their land. This led to an influx of European immigrants into the area including German, Swiss, and French families who brought their farming traditions with them. One notable settler was Peter Krumm who arrived in 1854 and established a homestead near Grapevine Lake which would eventually become part of modern-day Flower Mound. His farm provided vegetables and fruits for nearby Fort Worth as well as honey from his beehives. The arrival of the railroad in Denton County in 1881 opened up new opportunities for trade and commerce which led to further development in Flower Mound. The town began to thrive with stores, churches, schools, cotton gins, blacksmith shops and other businesses being established. In 1903, James Madison Morriss purchased over 600 acres of land surrounding what is now known as "the mound". He built a mansion on top of this hill where he lived until his death in 1946. After his passing, his daughter inherited the property but sold it shortly after due to high taxes. In the late 1920s through early 1930s during Prohibition era America – many outlaws found refuge among the thick woods that covered Flower Mound. The infamous Bonnie and Clyde were known to frequent the area, and their hideout was rumored to be located near the top of "the mound". It wasn't until the 1960s that Flower Mound began to transform into a modern suburban town. In 1961, construction began on Lake Grapevine which would eventually flood over Morriss's mansion and turn it into an island. In 1970, with a population of only 1,685 residents - Flower Mound officially became incorporated as a city. The town grew rapidly in the following decades with new developments springing up all around “the mound” including neighborhoods, shopping centers, restaurants, parks and recreational areas. One pivotal moment in Flower Mound’s history was when Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) opened its doors in 1974. This brought about tremendous economic opportunities for the town with increased job opportunities and transportation options for its residents. Today, Flower Mound is home to over 75,000 residents who enjoy a high quality of life thanks to its strong economy and excellent school district. It has also become known as one of the safest communities in Texas due to its low crime rate. The town continues to grow while maintaining its small-town charm. Its commitment to preserving natural landscapes can be seen through numerous parks such as Twin Coves Park which offers camping sites along Lake Grapevine or Firefighter's Memorial Park where visitors can hike through flower-filled meadows on walking trails. Flower Mound has also become a hub for cultural activities with events like Art in Bloom festival showcasing local artists' work and Music in Motion concert series featuring live music performances from various genres throughout the summer months. In conclusion, Flower Mound’s rich history plays an integral role in shaping what it is today – a thriving community that honors its past while embracing progress and growth. Its scenic beauty combined with diverse cultural offerings make it a wonderful place to live, work and visit. As the town continues to evolve, one can only imagine what the future holds for this charming Texas gem.

Flower Mound, Texas is a small town located in Denton and Tarrant counties in the northern part of the state. It has a rich history that dates back to the early 1800s when it was occupied by Native American tribes such as the Wichita, Caddo, and Comanche. The first European settlers arrived in Flower Mound around the mid-1800s. The area was primarily used for farming and ranching due to its fertile land and abundant water sources such as Grapevine Lake and Lewisville Lake. In 1843, Captain Jonathan Bird established a homestead near what is now known as Flower Mound Road. He built a log cabin on his property which served as one of the first schools in the area. In 1854, Peter Morriss purchased land from Captain Bird's son-in-law and became one of the largest landowners in what would later become Flower Mound. His son-in-law William Gibson also played an important role in developing the community by establishing cotton gins, gristmills, and general stores. By 1881, there were several families living in Flower Mound who had formed their own community called "Peters Prairie." In 1895, they changed its name to "Flower Mound" after discovering an unusual cluster of wildflowers on top of a hill that resembled a giant flower bouquet. Throughout most of its early history, Flower Mound remained predominantly agricultural with cotton being its main crop until it suffered from severe droughts during World War I. This led many farmers to switch to other crops such as corn and dairy farming instead. However, major changes came about when Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport opened nearby in 1974. This brought rapid growth to not only neighboring cities but also Flower Mound itself with new businesses opening up along Interstate Highway 35W (I-35W) which runs through the town.
