Mercury Marine has a long and rich history in Azle, Texas. The company, which is best known for its production of high-quality marine engines, has been a key part of the Azle community since the 1960s. The story of Mercury Marine’s presence in Azle began in 1963 when local businessman W.W. "Bill" Mauk purchased land near Eagle Mountain Lake with the intention of building a manufacturing plant for his newly acquired outboard motor company called Kiekhaefer Aeromarine Motors. This facility would eventually become Mercury’s largest manufacturing plant worldwide. In April 1964, just one year after purchasing the land, Mauk broke ground on what was then known as Plant No.1 – an impressive 220-acre site that would house over three acres under roof and provide employment to more than 500 people within its first decade of operation. At this time, Azle was a small rural town with a population of only around 5,000 residents. The initial investment made by Bill Mauk paid off quickly as demand for Mercury’s outboard motors grew rapidly during the mid-60s recreational boating boom. By October 1967, Plant No.1 had already expanded twice – increasing its capacity from producing just over forty units per day to well over two hundred units daily. As demand continued to increase throughout the late ‘60s and ‘70s due to both domestic sales and international expansion efforts by Mercury Marine's parent company Brunswick Corporation (which acquired Kiekhaefer Aeromarine Motors in June '61), it became clear that additional space was needed yet again if they were going to keep up with market demands. This led to further expansions at both Plant No.1 and also construction beginning on another nearby facility referred to simply as “the East Building”. With these new structures completed by early '75 along with other upgrades like improved shipping and receiving capabilities, Mercury’s Azle plant was now able to produce over 1,000 outboard motors per day – an incredible feat for a facility that had only been in operation for roughly ten years. As the company continued to grow and expand its product line beyond just outboard motors, so too did the Azle plant. In the late ‘80s it became home to manufacturing other marine products like sterndrives, inboards and transmissions as well as assembling various engine components such as fuel systems (carburetors), gearcases and propellers. The early ‘90s saw further growth with construction of Plant No.3 which added another three acres under roof along with more assembly lines dedicated to producing Mercury’s popular Optimax Direct Fuel Injected 2-stroke outboards introduced in '96 that helped reduce emissions while also increasing fuel efficiency compared to traditional carbureted engines. In addition, a large service parts distribution center was established on-site enabling faster turnaround time when ordering replacement parts or accessories – something customers have come to appreciate especially during peak boating season where downtime can be costly both financially and enjoyment-wise. Today Mercury Marine's presence in Azle remains strong serving not only recreational boaters but also commercial industries including military applications such as Navy SEAL Team boats equipped with Mercury’s diesel-powered waterjet drives used for special operations missions worldwide. As of 2019 Brunswick Corporation reported total sales revenues exceeding $4 billion USD making them one of the largest producers of recreational boats globally thanks largely in part due their long-time success story here locally at Mercury Marine - Texas Operations located right here within our very own backyard!
Mercury Marine is an American company that specializes in the production of outboard motors, boat engines, and other marine-related products. It was founded in 1939 by Carl Kiekhaefer and has since become one of the leading manufacturers in the marine industry. The company's headquarters are located in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, but it also has manufacturing facilities across the world. The history of Mercury Marine dates back to its founder, Carl Kiekhaefer's passion for engineering and speed. He had a successful career as an engineer at Evinrude Motors before deciding to start his own business. In 1939, he purchased a bankrupt engine manufacturing plant with only $2,000 in cash and renamed it "Kiekhaefer Corporation." The company initially produced magnetic separators for dairy farms but soon shifted its focus to designing and producing high-performance racing engines. In 1940, Kiekhaefer entered a race on Lake Michigan with his modified outboard motor called "Quicksilver." This race not only marked Mercury Marine's entry into the boating industry but also set a new speed record of 58 miles per hour (mph) for Class C stock runabouts. This achievement caught the attention of many boat enthusiasts who were looking for more powerful engines for their boats. With increasing demand for their products from both recreational boaters and racers alike, Mercury Marine expanded its product line beyond racing engines to include consumer outboard motors. In 1945, they introduced their first commercial outboard motor called "Lightning" which quickly became popular due to its reliability and durability. Since then, Mercury Marine has continued to innovate and improve upon their designs while keeping up with market trends. One notable development was the introduction of four-stroke technology in their motors in 2004. This move not only improved fuel efficiency but also reduced emissions making them compliant with environmental regulations. Mercury Marine has a long and rich history in Azle, Texas. The company was founded in 1939 by Carl Kiekhaefer, who started the business out of his garage in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Kiekhaefer's initial focus was on building racing engines for boats, but as demand grew for recreational boating after World War II, he shifted his attention to producing marine engines. In 1955, Mercury Marine opened its first manufacturing plant outside of Wisconsin in St. Paul, Minnesota. This expansion helped the company keep up with growing demand and allowed them to introduce new products such as stern drives and outboard motors. In the late 1960s, Mercury Marine began looking for a new location to expand their operations even further. After considering several locations across the country, they ultimately chose Azle, Texas as their next manufacturing site due to its central location and access to major waterways. The construction of the Azle facility began in 1972 and took three years to complete at a cost of $19 million. The state-of-the-art factory spanned over one million square feet and employed over 1,200 people when it opened in 1975. The opening of the Azle plant marked a significant milestone for Mercury Marine's growth as it became their largest production facility at that time. It also solidified their position as a leading manufacturer of marine engines worldwide. Over the years, Mercury Marine continued to invest in upgrades and expansions at its Azle location to meet increasing demand for its products. In 1983, they added an engineering center which focused on designing innovative boat propulsion systems. In addition to manufacturing engines at this facility, Mercury Marine also produced sterndrives (also known as "inboard/outboards") until discontinuing this product line in early 2021 due to changing market conditions. Today, the Azle plant remains an important part of Mercury Marine's global operations, producing a wide range of outboard and inboard engines for recreational and commercial boats. It also houses an advanced research and development center, where engineers continue to push the boundaries of marine engine technology. Azle, Texas is a small city located in Tarrant County, just 16 miles northwest of Fort Worth. It has a population of approximately 13,000 residents and covers an area of 8 square miles. Despite its relatively small size, Azle has a rich history and vibrant community that makes it stand out among other cities in the state. The origins of Azle can be traced back to the mid-1800s when it was initially known as O'Barryville after one of its early settlers, Elijah H. Berry. In the late 19th century, the name was changed to Asbury after Francis Asbury Danley who opened up a general store in the town. However, by 1884 when the first post office was established there, it had been renamed Azle - likely derived from either "hazel" or "asphodel," two types of flowers found in abundance in the area. One notable aspect about Azle's early history is its role as a stop on one of Texas' most significant highways – The Bankhead Highway (now known as State Highway 199). This highway connected Washington D.C to San Diego and played a crucial part in shaping some smaller towns like Azle into more prominent trading centers. Today, Azle has evolved into not just a place for travelers but also an ideal residential location with excellent schools and thriving businesses. The city boasts several parks equipped with recreational facilities such as playgrounds and sports fields where residents can enjoy outdoor activities all year round. Another factor contributing to Azle's growth is its proximity to Eagle Mountain Lake – one of North Texas' premier recreation destinations. With over eight marinas scattered around Eagle Mountain Lake's shoreline offering boat rentals and lakeside dining options; this lake provides endless opportunities for fishing, boating or simply soaking up some sun while enjoying panoramic views. In addition to being surrounded by beautiful natural scenery like Twin Points Park and Cross Timbers Golf Course, Azle also has a strong sense of community. The city hosts several annual events such as the Spring Fling, which brings together vendors, food trucks, and live music for a day of family fun. There is also the popular Christmas Parade that takes place every December where residents come out to celebrate the holiday season with festive floats and performances. Azle also has a robust healthcare sector with Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital serving as the primary medical facility in the area. This hospital provides emergency services along with various specialized care units such as cardiovascular care and women's health services. In recent years, Azle has experienced rapid growth both economically and demographically. With new housing developments popping up throughout the city offering affordable living options for families looking to relocate or first-time homebuyers. Despite this growth spurt though; Azle remains true to its small-town roots by preserving historic landmarks like The Fort Worth & Denver South Plains Railway Depot – now used as a museum showcasing local artifacts from yesteryear. In conclusion, Azle may be a small town compared to other cities in Texas but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in charm and community spirit. Its rich history combined with modern amenities make it an attractive place not just to visit but also call home. Azle truly offers the best of both worlds for its residents – the peacefulness of a small town and the convenience of being close to all that a big city has to offer.
Mercury Marine is a company that has been at the forefront of marine technology for over 80 years. Founded in 1939 by engineer and businessman Carl Kiekhaefer, Mercury Marine has become a leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of recreational and commercial marine engines. The Early Years: Carl Kiekhaefer was a man with an entrepreneurial spirit. After graduating from engineering school in Germany, he immigrated to the United States in 1927 and began working as an engineer for Evinrude Outboard Motors. However, after only one year on the job, he was fired due to his perfectionist tendencies. Undeterred by this setback, Kiekhaefer decided to start his own business and founded Kiekhaefer Corporation in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Initially producing magnetic separators for dairy farms and outboard motorboat racing engines under contract with Lockwood-Ash Motor Company (which would later become Scott-Atwater), it wasn't until World War II that Mercury Marine truly came into its own. During World War II: In 1940, just before America's entry into WWII, the US Navy approached Mercury about building lightweight propulsion systems for small military craft such as inflatable boats used by reconnaissance units. This collaboration led to production of their first prototype outboard engine - dubbed "the Lightning" - which weighed only 37 pounds but could deliver speeds up to 20 mph. By January of 1941 though they had perfected the concept even further with what they termed “a more practical” version: The Thunderbolt – weighing less than half as much while delivering better performance! As luck would have it however; another boat builder challenged them saying if they didn’t believe their claims then prove it! So within three weeks Carl built three new models which were put through demanding tests against all other competing brands… results proved outstanding superiority! However – despite holding great potential for the future - most of Mercury's production during WWII was focused on producing aluminum propellers and other military equipment. Post-War Expansion: After the war, Mercury Marine quickly expanded its product line to include lightweight engines for recreational boating. Their first post-war outboard motor, the 3.9 horsepower Thunderbolt Four, was released in 1946 and sold over 5,000 units in its first year. Innovation has always been at the heart of Mercury Marine's success. In 1950, they introduced a new line of V-8 engines that were more powerful yet still compact and light enough for small boats. This innovation earned them a reputation as an industry leader in marine technology. Throughout the decades that followed, Mercury continued to push boundaries with their advancements in marine propulsion systems. They developed two-stroke engines with electronic fuel injection in the late 1980s, which greatly improved efficiency and reduced emissions. Recent Years: In recent years, Mercury Marine has continued to be a pioneer in marine technology by developing four-stroke outboard motors that are cleaner and more fuel-efficient than ever before. They also offer innovative features such as joystick piloting systems that make boating easier and safer for both experienced captains and beginners alike. Today, Mercury Marine is headquartered in Fond du Lac Wisconsin and employs over 7,500 people worldwide with manufacturing facilities located throughout North America including China. The company produces not only outboard motors but also sterndrive propulsion systems used on larger boats as well as parts and accessories necessary for boat maintenance. Partnerships & Achievements: Mercury Marine has partnered with many leading boat manufacturers to provide quality propulsion systems for their vessels including Sea Ray Boats (a subsidiary of Brunswick Corporation who purchased Kiekhaefer Corporation from Carl himself back) Bayliner; Boston Whaler; Tracker Marine Group – manufacturer of bass fishing craft… even Crestliner who have been building all-aluminum boats for over 75 years! Today, Mercury Marine is still a leader in marine technology and continues to innovate with their engines and other products. In 2018, they introduced the V-6 FourStroke outboard motor – the world's first large-displacement four-stroke engine with an advanced torque-based control system. In addition to their technological advancements, Mercury Marine has also achieved numerous awards and recognitions throughout its history. They have won multiple JD Power Awards for customer satisfaction, as well as numerous NMMA Innovation Awards for their innovative products. Looking Towards the Future: As we move into the future, Mercury Marine remains committed to innovation and sustainability. With increasing concerns about environmental impact on our oceans and waterways, they have made significant investments in research and development of eco-friendly propulsion systems that reduce emissions without sacrificing performance. They have also expanded into electric propulsion systems with their acquisition of Attwood Corporation in 2003. This partnership has allowed them to develop cutting-edge electric motors such as the Electric Thruster which provides quiet yet powerful thrust for kayaks and small boats. Mercury Marine's dedication to excellence has kept them at the forefront of marine technology for over eight decades. As boating continues to grow in popularity around the world, it is safe to say that Mercury will continue pushing boundaries and shaping the future of this industry. From humble beginnings in a small town in Wisconsin to becoming a global leader in marine technology, Mercury Marine's history is one of determination, innovation, and success - all stemming from one man’s vision almost a century ago.

Azle, Texas is a small city located in Tarrant County, just 16 miles northwest of downtown Fort Worth. Despite its relatively small size and population, Azle has a rich history dating back to the early days of settlement in North Central Texas. The land that would become Azle was first inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Comanche and Caddo. These groups were nomadic hunters and gatherers who utilized the resources of the area for survival. In fact, the name "Azle" is believed to come from a Native American word meaning "strong water", referring to the numerous springs and creeks found in the area. In 1843, William Huddleston became one of the first Anglo-American settlers in what is now Azle. He established a homestead on Spring Creek near present-day Main Street and began farming corn and cotton. Other pioneers followed suit, attracted by fertile land for agriculture as well as abundant wildlife for hunting. As more settlers arrived, communities began to form around churches and schools. The community that would eventually become known as Azle was originally called O'Bar or Bar Hill after local settler John O'Bar's farmstead on Eagle Mountain Lake. However, when residents petitioned for their own post office in 1881 they were informed another town already existed with that name. So instead they chose "Azil" (pronounced A-zill) which later evolved into its current spelling. One notable event during this time period was when notorious outlaw Sam Bass robbed an express train near Weatherford in July 1878 before hiding out at Salt Creek Prairie nearby where he met his untimely death at only 27 years old. By the late 1800s, several businesses had been established including general stores, blacksmith shops, gristmills, saloons and hotels along with dairy farms producing milk sold door-to-door by horse-drawn wagons. A schoolhouse was also built in 1890 and the first church, Azle Methodist Episcopal Church South, was established in 1891. In 1904, the town of Azle was officially incorporated with a population of around 150 residents. The first mayor was J.P. Knapp and the city limits extended one mile in each direction from Main Street. During this time period, cotton farming became a major industry for Azle and surrounding areas. The early to mid-20th century saw significant growth and development for Azle as well as many other towns across Texas thanks to advances in transportation and technology. In particular, the construction of State Highway 199 (Jackboro Highway) through downtown Azle in the late 1920s provided easier access to Fort Worth for trade and commerce. During World War II, Camp Wolters (now known as Fort Wolters) was established just west of Mineral Wells which brought an influx of soldiers into Tarrant County including some stationed at Eagle Mountain Lake who occasionally visited nearby communities like Azle on their days off. After the war ended, more people began moving out of cities like Fort Worth seeking quieter suburban lifestyles resulting in a housing boom for small towns such as Azle throughout the latter half of the twentieth century. Today, agriculture is still an important part of Azle's economy but it has diversified over time with new industries such as oil production providing jobs along with retail stores catering to tourists visiting nearby Eagle Mountain Lake or heading to bigger cities like Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport thirty miles away via Interstate I-35W below us atop our perch on State Hwy Loop U.S.-287/U.S.-377 that connect most North Central Texas communities together now making travel much easier than by horseback back when we were settled! Azle has also seen significant population growth since its incorporation with over 12,000 residents currently calling it home according to recent census data. In addition, the city has been recognized as one of the best suburbs to live in North Texas by publications such as D Magazine and Niche.com thanks to its low crime rates, good schools and overall quality of life. In conclusion, Azle's history is a testament to the perseverance and hard work of early settlers who carved out a living from this once wild frontier. From humble beginnings as a small farming community, it has evolved into a thriving city with a strong sense of community and pride in its past. Today, Azle continues to grow and change while still honoring its rich heritage that makes it an integral part of Tarrant County's diverse landscape.

This attention-to-detail approach reflects their commitment towards providing customers with top-of-the-line products that are built to last. Over time, Mercury Marine has expanded beyond just manufacturing marine engines by acquiring other companies like Quicksilver Propellers (now called Mercruiser) which produces sterndrives and inboard engines. This diversification has enabled the company to offer a complete range of propulsion systems, catering to different types of boats and boaters. Moreover, Mercury Marine also offers an extensive line of accessories and services that complement their products. These include controls and rigging systems, gauges and displays, propellers, oils & lubricants as well as maintenance services. By providing customers with everything they need for their boat in one place, Mercury Marine aims to make boating more convenient and hassle-free. In recent years, Mercury Marine has also made significant strides towards sustainability by incorporating eco-friendly practices into its production processes. The company's commitment towards reducing emissions can be seen through its introduction of the first propane-powered outboard engine – the 5hp Propane FourStroke – which emits significantly less carbon monoxide compared to gasoline engines. Additionally, they have also implemented sustainable packaging solutions such as reusable containers for parts distribution. Apart from being a leader in innovation and quality control, Mercury Marine is also known for its strong dealer network worldwide. With over 4000 dealers across 130 countries, the company ensures easy access to sales support or service wherever you are on the water. Furthermore, Mercury Marine is actively involved in supporting various marine conservation efforts through partnerships with organizations like National Fish & Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC). They have also established their own foundation – The Brunswick Public Foundation – which focuses on promoting environmental stewardship among youth. In conclusion, it is evident that Mercury Marine has come a long way since its inception in 1939. From pioneering new technologies to expanding its product portfolio globally while staying committed to sustainability efforts; this company continues to set high standards within the marine industry. With customer satisfaction at its core values along with continuous advancements in technology; it is no surprise that Mercury Marine remains a top choice for boaters around the world.
