FISHING-BOATING-VOTING!!!

What Voting, Boating, and Fishing Have in Common!!!!!!

At first glance, voting, boating, and fishing may seem like entirely different activities. One happens at the ballot box, the other two on the water.  But all three are deeply rooted in the American spirit of freedom, responsibility, and participation.

As America approaches her 250th birthday in 2026, it’s worth celebrating the simple freedoms that generations of Americans have enjoyed and defended. It’s patriotic to vote. It’s patriotic to boat. And it’s patriotic to fish.

LICENSES, REGISTRATION, AND IDENTIFICATION

*Fishing legally in most states requires a license.

*Boating often requires registration, titling, safety permits, and in some states a boating education certificate or operator’s permit.

*Voting requires voter registration and, in many states, identification.

*In America, freedom does come with a little paperwork.

RULES, REGULATIONS, AND SEASONS

*Fishing has seasons, size limits, bag limits, and conservation rules.

*Boating has navigation rules, speed limits, no-wake zones, right-of-way laws, and safety requirements.

*Voting has registration deadlines, polling hours, assigned voting locations, and election dates.

*All three prove that freedom works best when there are rules everyone agrees to follow.

PREPARATION MATTERS

*Serious fishermen study water temperature, weather, bait selection, moon phases, and where the fish are biting.

*Serious boaters check fuel levels, engine condition, weather forecasts, life jackets, navigation equipment, and emergency gear.

*Serious voters study candidates, ballot propositions, polling locations, and sample ballots.

*Showing up unprepared in any of these activities can lead to frustration, embarrassment, or a long story later.

PATIENCE IS REQUIRED

*Fishing requires patience. Sometimes the fish just aren’t cooperating.

*Boating requires patience. Sometimes the launch ramp line is longer than the trip itself.

*Voting requires patience. Sometimes the line at the polls moves slower than a pontoon boat in a no-wake zone.

*Patience is not optional in these American traditions.

SOCIAL GATHERINGS AND COMMUNITY

*Fishing tournaments bring people together.

*Boating brings families, neighbors, and friends together for recreation, celebrations, and adventures.

*Voting brings communities together in town halls, debates, rallies, and Election Day participation.

*All three remind us that America is strongest when citizens participate—not just individually, but together.

IT’S FOR ALL GENERATIONS

*Fishing is often passed down from grandparents to parents to children.

*Boating traditions often become treasured family memories passed down through generations.

*Voting should be passed down too—not as a family obligation to vote one way or another, but as a lesson in civic responsibility.

*A tackle box, a boat key, and a voter registration card all represent uniquely American freedoms.

COSTS MAY EXIST, BUT FREEDOM ITSELF IS PRICELESS

*Fishing may require tackle, bait, fuel, and licenses.

*Boating may require fuel, maintenance, dock fees, insurance, and enough spare parts to start a small marina.

*Voting may cost a little gas and time—but casting your ballot is free.

*Three activities with costs… one priceless freedom behind them all.

WEATHER CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING

*Bad weather can ruin a fishing trip.

*Bad weather can absolutely ruin a boating trip.

*Bad weather can make voting less convenient—but Americans have shown up through rain, snow, and storms for generations.

*Freedom doesn’t always come with perfect weather.

CASTING COUNTS…..LIKELY THE MOST IMPORTANT!!!

*Fishing requires you to cast your line if you hope to catch anything.

*Boating requires you to cast off if you actually want to leave the dock and go somewhere.

*Voting requires you to cast your ballot if you want your voice heard.

*Nothing happens in fishing, boating, or democracy until somebody casts.

AMERICA’S 250TH BIRTHDAY

In 2026, America celebrates 250 years of liberty.

That’s 250 years of citizens building communities, defending freedoms, exploring waters, enjoying public lands, and participating in self-government.

A sunrise fishing trip.
A day on the lake with family.
A trip to the polling place.

These may seem like ordinary moments—but together, they reflect the extraordinary freedoms that make America unique.

FINAL THOUGHT

There are places in the world where citizens don’t enjoy public waters, or clean water making the fish safe to eat, recreational freedoms, or free elections.

America has all of these!!!!

So as we approach THIS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND:

Take a kid fishing.
Take the family boating.
Take yourself EARLY voting. Why vote May 18-22 vs. waiting till May 26th?  Hopefully you will be CASTING while fishing and CASTING your boat off the dock when boating this Memorial Day Weekend and whether it’s a hang-over or hail storm….don’t wait till the 26th and take a chance in missing out on CASTING YOUR VOTE!!!
